Children have been discovering the joys of reading for pleasure during a special day of workshops at Westbrook Old Hall  Primary School.

As part of the day, all children got the chance to take part in an assembly as well as an opportunity to buy a book of their own to enjoy at home.

The day ended with a workshop for parents which included a presentation about the benefits of reading for pleasure, a story time with their children and a themed crafting session.

The Workshops were led by Julie Ainsworth, a primary school teacher with a passion for reading and inspiring children to read for pleasure. Her company Fully Book’d delivers assemblies to schools and workshops for parents as well as book sales.

Reading for pleasure helps children to develop a lifelong love of learning while building essential skills in a fun and engaging way. It also supports their imagination and creativity, allowing them to explore new worlds, ideas, and perspectives beyond their own experiences.

Following the workshops, it is now hoped that the children will take what they've learned home to support them in a future of reading for pleasure.
