Our commitment to promoting sustainability has been set out in a new Trust-wide Climate Action Plan. The document has been developed in line with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy (April 2022) and sets out key objectives for the Trust over the next 5 years. The plan establishes a clear roadmap for reducing environmental impact and embedding sustainability into our practices while also contributing to the UK’s ambition to become a world leader in climate education and action by 2030. It sets out our commitment to promoting sustainability across all areas of our operations and education delivery and represents a significant step toward achieving our environmental goals while ensuring compliance with national expectations.
Key areas of focus for the Trust include Carbon Management and Decarbonisation with an annual audit of our carbon emissions. There will also be a number of energy efficiency initiatives such as installing smart meters, heating system upgrades, motion-sensitive lighting and low-energy bulbs The Trust will also be looking into Waste and Resource Management such double-sided printing, increased digital communication, paper reuse, and lamination for frequently used documents Sustainability will also become embedded across the curriculum, empowering pupils to understand environmental challenges and take action through learning and school-led initiatives.
As a Trust we have already invested £1 million in decarbonisation since 2021 and expanded upcycling initiatives to extend material lifecycles, reduce waste, and support circular economy principles. We have also achieved Planet Mark accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to measurable carbon reduction and sustainable practices.
