Pupils Pick the Perfect Christmas Trees on Festive Visits to Local Farms

Pupils have been learning more about the local businesses that play an important role in our festive celebrations, while taking on the important task of picking their school’s Christmas tree.
Bradshaw Primary School Council members went on a magical trip to Grappenhall Christmas Tree Farm.
During their visit, pupils were given a behind-the-scenes look at how the trees are grown, cared for and prepared ready to go to homes and schools across the region.
Staff showed the children the years of work that go into producing each tree, from planting and pruning, to protecting the young saplings from winter frosts. The pupils spoke to the team about the farm’s busiest time of year and discovered how local small businesses play a central role in the community’s festive traditions.
After careful inspection, plenty of debate and excellent teamwork, the council members finally selected the perfect tree to stand proudly in their school hall.
At Chapelford Village Primary School, the honour of choosing the school’s Christmas tree fell to the Head Boy and Head Girl. They took a special visit to Kenyan Hall Farm where they got to see a variety of trees and learn more about the local business.
Once delivered to school, their chosen tree was transformed with decorations handmade by pupils from every year group. The school community came together for an official lighting ceremony, marking the beginning of Christmas celebrations and showcasing the children’s creativity.
The trips were a great way for children to not just enjoy choosing their Christmas tree, but also to learn about local enterprise, environmental responsibility and working together.
Working with local businesses in this way helps our schools to strengthen community ties, supports the local economy, and give pupils valuable real-world learning experiences.
