With the seasons changing and the Autumn colours now on full display, children are getting the chance to take their learning outside the classroom with Forest School sessions at Omega Multi-Academy Trust schools.
With the help of volunteers from Amazon, two Forest School areas at Westbrook old Hall Primary School and Burtonwood Community Primary School were given a much needed makeover to get the spaces ready for the children to enjoy this term.
Volunteers from Amazon's local MAN2 Fulfillment Centre worked on the outdoor spaces as part of the company’s charitable scheme called Donation Of Hours, which involves Associates undertaking volunteer work in the community.
And now the work is complete, Forest School is taking place at the two schools as well as Park Road Community Primary School to provide enriching, hands-on learning experiences for their children.
The sessions encourage pupils to connect with nature, build confidence, and develop teamwork skills in outdoor settings. Forest School brings the classroom outside, integrating activities like shelter-building, plant and wildlife identification, and practical outdoor skills under the guidance of trained teachers.
And with Burtonwood’s Willow Wood now in full use, the children are eager to continue their outdoor adventures throughout the school year.
Westbrook Old Hall is equally enthusiastic, with Forest School Lead Debbie Swanton adding: “We have a great area in our school for Forest School and it is great to get the children out there using it. Forest School gives the children a different style of learning outside the classroom and is great fun!”
Park Road Forest School Lead Miss Taylor said: “Forest School is a unique outdoor learning experience where children can explore nature, develop new skills, and grow in confidence.
“Forest School encourages curiosity, resilience, and a deep connection with nature. Each session will be child-led, allowing them to follow their interests, try new things, and learn at their own pace. We can’t wait to see their love for learning grow in the great outdoors!”
Forest School is quickly becoming a valued part of the learning experience at our schools, helping to create stronger connections to nature and enhancing each child’s educational journey.
