Promoting wellbeing and calm for our Year 6 SATs

With SATs week now in full swing, primary schools across Omega Multi-Academy Trust have been taking a thoughtful and creative approach to preparation to prioritise not only academic success, but also pupil wellbeing, confidence and resilience.
At Park Road Community Primary School, Year 6 pupils have been revising in imaginative and engaging ways. Teachers have introduced relay-style revision games and even a classroom version of The Traitors, where one pupil secretly attempts to sabotage maths or grammar challenges. Alongside their studies, children have also been enjoying time outdoors, planting flowers in preparation for the school’s upcoming Flower Show and taking moments to unwind by reading in the sunshine.
Chapelford Village Primary School placed a strong emphasis on mindfulness and emotional wellbeing with Year 6 pupils being given the chance to take part in a calming yoga session designed to help them relax, reset and feel mentally prepared following their first exam.
At Bradshaw Primary School, preparation has kept children on their toes with pupils tackling formal writing and the subjunctive form through a fun and competitive revision challenge in the hall.
Creativity has also been used at Burtonwood Community Primary School, where Year 6 pupils have been reflecting on their primary school experiences through an art project inspired by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Using a range of materials, children created abstract relief sculptures that represent their memories, emotions and important moments.
Westbrook Old Hall Primary School pupils have been finding balance through physical activity along with SATs preparation. Year 6 have been developing their basketball skills, focusing on dribbling and hand-eye coordination. The sessions have provided a welcome break from revision, helping pupils release energy and maintain a calm, focused mindset.
By combining creative learning, physical activity, and wellbeing support, schools across the Trust are ensuring pupils feel calm, confident and ready to do their best.
