Young authors at Great Sankey High School have been celebrating after having their work published as part of two writing competitions.

This exceptional achievement by 33 young writers comes after the students were selected as winners for their creative work. It reflects not only the talent and dedication of the students themselves, but also the strong culture of literacy and creativity embedded across the school and supported by the Omega Multi-Academy Trust.

Their work has now been published in the anthologies The Adventures of… Marvellous Myths and Stranger Sagas: Into the Storm, which showcase distinct styles of writing and highlight the breadth of students’ storytelling abilities.

Stranger Sagas: Into the Storm challenged young authors to craft a complete and compelling story in just 100 words. With a focus on mystery, tension and surprise, the competition developed precision, careful vocabulary choices and a strong sense of narrative structure.

The Adventures of… Marvellous Myths invited students to draw inspiration from myths, legends and folklore. This competition encouraged imaginative thinking, rich description and creative character development, allowing students greater freedom to explore magical worlds, heroic journeys and timeless themes.

For many students, this was their first experience of sharing their writing beyond the classroom and provided a powerful sense of pride, confidence and motivation to continue developing their skills.

Participation in Young Writers competitions at Great Sankey High School is actively supported through the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which typically runs three to four competitions each academic year. These opportunities form a key part of the school’s and the Trust’s wider commitment to literacy.

This achievement is a testament to our students’ hard work and creativity, as well as the dedication of staff who continue to champion literacy and nurture a love of writing across our schools.
