Alsop High School students were given a taste of professional fine-dining during a unique visit to an award winning restaurant in Liverpool.

The group enjoyed a delicious two-course meal at The London Carriage Works at The Hope Street Hotel, sampling dishes such as gnocchi, cod supreme, and poached pears.

During the visit, students heard an inspiring talk from the head chef and the events management team, who shared insights into careers within the hospitality and catering industry.

The visit was organised by the school’s Design Technology department to give students a taste of professional fine dining as well as deepen their understanding of customer service, teamwork, presentation, and the skills needed to succeed in the world of food and event management.

Head of Design and Technology Mrs Powell said: “Many young people grow up without exposure to formal dining environments and places where specific etiquette, confidence, and social norms are expected.

“By intentionally giving all students the opportunity to participate in fine-dining experiences, students learn social and professional skills, such as formal table manners, interaction with hospitality staff, reading a menu, and understanding multi-course meals. These skills are often taken for granted but genuinely matter in many real-world situations such as job interviews conducted over meals, professional networking events, or workplace celebrations where formal dining etiquette is expected."

Fine-dining experiences like this, help students build the confidence, behaviours, and knowledge that support success beyond the classroom helping them to feel comfortable in environments they may encounter in higher education, the workplace, or social events later in life.

Fine-dining opportunities can also contribute to future career prospects, especially for students interested in hospitality, tourism, business, or customer-facing professions. Students get an inside look at service standards, menu design, professional conduct, and the expectations of high-level establishments.

The experience equipped students with valuable real-world skills and insights that will support their growth as confident young professionals.
