This week pastoral and safeguarding staff from across Omega Multi-Academy Trust attended training delivered by PAPYRUS, a UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.
The ‘SP-OT Suicide Prevention’ training is CPD certified and focussed on the following key objectives:
- To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide
- To explore the language, and the challenges, when talking openly about suicide
- To recognise the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide.
- To consider how we can all contribute to a safer community.
Staff from primary schools, secondary schools and our 6th form colleges felt that the session gave them valuable insights into the indicators that a young person may be distressed. The training expanded their knowledge about the systems, support and resources that can be best used to help our young people who may be struggling with their mental health.
Jan Malone, Director of Safeguarding and People Services at Omega Multi-Academy Trust said: “Our safeguarding and pastoral staff from across the trust were privileged to attend the training from Papyrus. The safety of the young people in our schools is of paramount importance and today’s session gave our staff an invaluable insight into suicide prevention, enabling them to recognise the signs, provide support, and direct those affected towards the appropriate resources."
We would like to thank PAPYRUS for visiting us and providing our staff with a valuable training session.
