Testimonials

"I came into teaching, like many of us, because I wanted to make a difference. After ten years at Accrington Academy, I can honestly say I have found a school where not only can I make a difference, I'm fully supported in doing that by fantastic colleagues and a Senior Leadership Team who put people first. In a profession where sometimes data drives everything, it's refreshing to work in a school driven by its desire to develop the whole student, their ambitions, well-being and integrity as well as their academic achievement, and that strives to do this by creating a supportive, team ethos amongst its staff. Accrington Academy really does live and breathe the philosophy of "education with character."

~ Nicky Grace, Faculty Leader, Creative and Expressive Arts

"Accrington Academy is unlike most other workplaces. Many employers talk about work/life balance, well-being and realistic workloads but here, it's never just talk. At Accrington Academy, people come first and unless we're all happy, well and working together, we can't possibly meet the challenging goals we set for ourselves. We are a progressive, forward-thinking school with huge ambition but before any of that, we're a community, striving for constant improvement. The school is extremely well-led and SLT are thoughtful, knowledgeable, and generous with their time. Our students are lively, resilient, and have been instilled with a genuine love of learning. Working at Accrington Academy is a joy and, if the opportunity arises, it's something that I'd recommend to anyone."

~ Adam Calvert, Teacher of Media Studies

"My journey began in September 2014 when I joined Accrington Academy as a Teacher of Mathematics, one of the best decisions I have made. Having now started my seventh year at the Academy, I can honestly say I am truly blessed and privileged to wake up every morning and say that I love my job and I love working at Accrington Academy.

My motivation and drive to succeed as a teacher is heavily influenced by my students. I love a challenge, and each day, the Academy provides just that!

Accrington Academy is a vibrant and forward-thinking school with friendly staff and children that are willing to learn and make a difference. The Mathematics Department that I work in has become my second little family where there is always a culture of learning & support, and more importantly, my days at Accrington Academy echo with nothing but joy and pride.

The school invests heavily in staff development which I am appreciative of. During my time at Accrington Academy, I have been privileged to benefit from excellent CPD and Leadership Development programmes, as well as support in completing my MA, giving me a chance for personal growth as well as guidance and care.

I am proud to tell people that I am a part of the Accrington Academy family; it is an excellent school and I am honoured to be a part of the team."

~ Asma Mulla, Teacher of Mathematicss

Why Join Us?

Our students demand the best from their teachers and we are committed to doing everything we can to support their development.

We aim to have a purposeful work environment and we seek to recruit and retain dynamic and inspirational staff that share in our vision and commitment.

As a Headteacher, I believe we should "train staff so well they can leave but treat them so well they don't want to". We want to be known across United Learning as a school of choice due to our prioritisation of workload and wellbeing.

We offer flexible working and offer a wide range of CPD opportunities for staff pooled from a wealth of experience and expertise both in the Academy and across the United Learning group. All teachers at United Learning receive free membership to the Chartered College of Teaching, giving you access to the world's largest education research database, a subscription to the College's peer-reviewed journal, networking opportunities and the chance to have your say in the development of education policy.

We love working in education but recognise that it can be challenging, that is why your wellbeing is always a priority to us, from emotional support to regular workload management. To help you relax and keep fit, you can benefit from free use of our onsite gym and pool. We have also partnered with Perkbox to offer every member of staff over 250 discounts on shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets and more!

We are a diverse school that aspires to be at the heart of the community. We believe a diverse and inclusive workforce is therefore essential, drawing from a range of talents, backgrounds and experiences, and striving to represent the community we work within. Ultimately, it is the children and young people who will be the greatest beneficiaries of this.  Our diversity monitoring has indicated that our workforce currently under-represents minority ethnic groups, so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from a BAME background.

This is the perfect opportunity to work in an innovative and creative school. We strongly encourage all potential applicants to visit us or get in touch for an informal conversation prior to interview. We are happy to meet you and show you around the Academy.
