Four Great Sankey High School students are making their way to the prestigious Junior Mathematical Olympiad next week after achieving high scores in a recent Maths event.

Theo, Tim and Kenji in Year 7 and Kary in Year 8 have been invited to take part in the event on 9th June following the school’s outstanding success in this year’s UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge. More than 80 pupils across Year 7 and Year 8 took part and achieved participation, bronze, silver and gold awards.

Theo, Tim, Kenji and Kary have now progressed to the next stage after achieving scores of over 80% in the challenge, which is an exceptional accomplishment in a competition designed to test mathematical reasoning, logic and problem-solving skills.

Theo achieved the highest score in the school, while Kary achieved the highest score in Year 8, making their performances even more impressive.

The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge is a nationally recognised competition aimed at encouraging a love of mathematics and developing students’ ability to think creatively and logically. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students from across the UK take part in the 60-minute challenge, which is designed to stretch even the most able young mathematicians through a series of complex problem-solving questions.

Only the highest-performing students across the country are invited to progress to the Junior Mathematical Olympiad, which is a demanding follow-on competition featuring advanced mathematical problems and written solutions.

The Trust is incredibly proud of all students who took part in the challenge and would like to congratulate Theo, Tim, Kenji and Kary on their exceptional performances and wish them the very best in the next round.
