Performing Arts students are learning new skills and finding out more about roles within the creative industries as part of a project working with the Liverpool Empire theatre.

A selected group of Year 9 students from Great Sankey High School, part of the Omega Multi-Academy Trust, are taking part in a series of workshops looking at the hit musical Hamilton and its connections with Liverpool history.

The Greatest City in the World project is being led by the Liverpool Empire Creative Learning team to give young people the chance to work closely with emerging artists and learn how to compose and perform rhythmic composition.

There will also be a workshop focused on helping students develop spoken word pieces to accompany their rhythmic compositions.  Each spoken word piece will have references to both Hamilton song lyrics and historical events from Liverpool’s history.

During a recent workshop, the students explored the art of composition using body percussion, instruments, and music technology.

Head of Performing Arts Joanne Cosgrove said that the students really enjoyed taking part and trying something new.

In April, students from all the schools who took part and associate artists will come together to perform on the Liverpool Empire stage.

What a great project to be involved in!
