Weeks of planning, planting and pruning came together for the launch of Park Road Community Primary School’s very own Flower Show.
The school gave their children the task of creating a colourful display across their grounds.
Each class was given a flower bed to plan, grow and present to parents and carers during the special Flower Show on Thursday 20th June.
The event was organised by the school’s Eco and innov8 Teams who also organised a community Big Dig earlier this year to get the grounds ready for the summer.
During the Flower Show children presented their flower bed designs and shared information about the theme. At the end of event, families voted on most creative, most informative and best in show. Among the themes were Harry Potter, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, enchanted garden and Peter Rabbit.
Headteacher Kathryn Quigley said: “Community is not only in our name but at the heart of everything we do. We love having our whole school family together to share learning.It was a very popular event and lots of parents commented on how amazing the work was. The flower beds were so creative and clearly lots of hard work.”
The Flower Show was organised as part of the school’s High Performance Learning Philosophy encouraging the children to understand the values of creativity and concern for society.
The flower beds were also focussed on helping the environment and gave the children a chance to bring their Science curriculum learning outside the classroom.
The school’s Eco Team worked closely with White Moss Garden Centre who supported with choosing seeds and bulbs.
Joanne Hewson, Director of Education at Omega MAT said: “This is a great example of how learning can be done outside as well as inside the classroom and it is great that our parents and carers were also able to get involved. The school grounds look amazing and they have done their bit for the environment too.”
