This week we are proud to announce that both Westbrook Old Hall Primary School and Burtonwood Community Primary School have both been awarded Ambassador Status for Music by the Accent Music Education Hub Music Ambassador School Scheme.

The Scheme aims to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument through whole class teaching programmes, providing opportunities to play in ensembles and to perform from an early age.  The scheme also ensures clear progression routes are available and affordable to all young people as well as providing musical instruments.

To achieve this award the schools had to demonstrate that they met several criteria.

Westbrook Old Hall Primary School delivered a range of activities including:

  • Bespoke music lessons which follow classroom topics and themes and also linked to the Model Music Curriculum
  • Lessons focused upon musicianship and composition with clear progression across the primary age range.
  • Prominent ICT features, highlighted within the most recent National Plan for Music Education.
  • Access to a variety of tuned classroom instruments within classroom music lessons in which children are able to opt in to additional instrumental lessons provided by a team of six peripatetic staff.
  • After school music clubs including, choir, orchestra, guitar club and two ukulele clubs.
  • Weekly performances by the school orchestra as part of the Celebration Assembly.
  • An annual Music Evening
  • Participation by the school choir in concert opportunities
  • Music moderation meetings with other local schools

Celebrating the achievement of our two primary schools in being awarded Music Ambassador School status is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and children. We believe that music is an essential part of a well-rounded education, and we are proud that our school can provide opportunities for all to develop their musical talents and express themselves creatively. We remain committed to supporting and nurturing our schools to achieve excellence in all areas, including the arts.

Both schools attended an awards ceremony at Warrington Town Hall where they received their awards from the Warrington Mayor. We are very proud of the achievements made by both schools and is looking forward to many wonderful performances from our budding musical stars!
